FAQ

Can I bring my tasks and settings from Motrix 1?

Not yet. Motrix 2 is a ground-up rebuild and starts fresh; migrating Motrix 1 data is not supported. If you might go back, back up Motrix 1’s data folder before installing.

Windows says “Windows protected your PC” — is the download safe?

That’s Microsoft SmartScreen reacting to the installer not being code-signed yet, not a malware verdict. Verify you downloaded from motrix.app, then click More info → Run anyway. Signing is planned; until then this warning is expected.

It’s back — in a more predictable form. When you open the New Task dialog with a link in your clipboard, Motrix fills the empty URL field automatically; turn this off under Settings → General → Autofill link from clipboard. Motrix still never watches your clipboard in the background: the read happens once, only at the moment the dialog opens.

Manual pasting stays smart too: magnet links switch to the Torrent tab, cURL commands unpack into URL + headers, and multi-line pastes become batches — one task per line. See Adding tasks.

No. Motrix handles http(s), ftp, magnet: links, and .torrent files. Proprietary schemes are out of scope.

Which languages does Motrix speak?

English, 简体中文 (Simplified Chinese), and 繁體中文 (Traditional Chinese). Motrix picks your system language on first run; change it any time in Settings → Appearance.

Does closing the window stop my downloads?

No — Motrix keeps downloading in the background and lives in the system tray. Quitting (⌘Q / Ctrl+Q) does stop transfers; if downloads are active, Motrix asks first.

Why did my torrent stop uploading?

By default Motrix stops seeding at a 1.0 share ratio or after 60 minutes, whichever comes first. Both limits are in Settings → BitTorrent → Seeding (0 = unlimited), and Re-seed restarts uploading any time. See BitTorrent downloads.

How many downloads run at once?

Five by default. Raise Max concurrent downloads in Settings → Downloads (up to 100); further tasks queue until a slot frees up.

What’s the Beta update channel?

Settings → About → Update channel chooses between Stable and Beta. Beta delivers releases earlier but they may be less reliable. Switching back to Stable stops new betas but never downgrades — you stay on your current version until a newer stable ships.

Can I run Motrix on my NAS or a server?

Yes — Motrix ships a headless server edition as a Docker image, with a full web UI and remote CLI access. See Motrix Server on Docker.

Why doesn’t my computer sleep during downloads?

Motrix intentionally keeps the system awake while the engine is actively transferring, so downloads don’t silently stall. Once transfers finish, normal sleep behavior resumes.

Where are my settings, logs, and history stored?

See the file-locations table in Troubleshooting.
