Speed Limits
Downloads shouldn’t ruin your video call. Motrix’s speed limits live in Settings → Downloads, and the Speed Limit tile on the Dashboard lets you switch modes with one click.
The three modes
| Mode | What it means |

| Standard mode | Your everyday ceiling. The standard limits apply — or no limit at all if you leave them on Unlimited |
| Low-speed mode | A manual “slow down now” switch — great when you need the bandwidth for something else. The low-speed limits apply |
| Automatic mode | Motrix decides when to slow down, using the rules you set below |
Switch modes from the Dashboard tile or in Settings → Downloads. The tile always shows which limit is in effect and why: Standard limit, Low-speed mode, Schedule, or Bandwidth reserve.
Standard and low-speed limits
Set download and upload ceilings for both profiles:
- Standard speed limits — used for everyday downloads and respected in every mode.
- Low-speed limits — used in Low speed mode or by scheduled rules. These can only reduce the standard limits, never raise them.
Note
When multiple limits apply at once, Motrix always uses the lower value. The Current effect summary at the bottom of the settings spells out exactly what’s active right now.
Automatic rules
These only apply in Automatic mode:
Scheduled slowdown
Switch to the low-speed limits during set hours — say, evenings when the household is streaming. Pick a start and end time and the active days of the week. A schedule like 22:00 → 06:00 simply wraps past midnight.
Leave bandwidth for other apps
Tell Motrix your connection’s download and upload bandwidth — or click Estimate from recent speeds and let it fill the numbers from your download history — then choose what percentage to reserve for other apps. Motrix keeps its own usage under the remainder.
Tip
The estimate needs history: finish at least one download without limits first, or type your bandwidth in manually.
Per-task limits
A single torrent can get its own DL Limit and UL Limit when you add it — see Adding tasks. Per-task limits and global limits combine the same way: the lower value wins.
